Online Bible Study - Foundations of Faith

The Confession of Sins

Research shows that the majority of crimes are committed at night. These are crimes that effect both the general public and private individuals. When questioned about the reason for this finding, researchers agreed that criminals consider nighttime as the best time for sinning, since their sinful acts are not easily seen.

How foolish! Perhaps by sinning at night a person can escape the eyes of the law and hide their sin from other people. However, no matter how dark it is or how privately we commit our sins, God, the omniscient (all knowing) and omnipresent (all-present), knows everything that is done. His record of our doings in life is complete.

It is for this reason that the act of confession is required and important to both God and man. Even if we cannot, or will not, or are afraid to confess our sins to another human being, we cannot hide them from God. It is only by confession that we can come before a just, loving, and forgiving God, to ask for forgiveness. It is for this reason that we, in this lesson, will study what the Bible teaches about

Confession and Absolution.

Confession is Required
The Holy Bible clearly teaches that the act of confession is an absolute requirement in the process of forgiveness. We have learned from God's Word that He, through the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ, has purchased the forgiveness of sins for us. To receive His forgiveness in faith, we must confess our sins, receive absolution, and start over again, living a new and holier life.
