Bible Study - Foundations of Faith
The Last Things
Eternal Life
On that "last day," after the final Judgement, all people will live forever either in the eternal joys of the new heaven and earth or in the eternal torments of hell. This is what the Bible teaches. The Psalmist David wrote in Psalm 17:15, "And I - in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness."
We will awake in heaven. That is the reward for faith in Christ, who opened heaven to us by His suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension. Heaven is a real place, the place where God dwells. Heaven is mentioned 582 times in the Bible. It is also called Paradise. 1 Peter 1:3-4 states, "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you."
Jesus tells us that heaven is where He has prepared a place for those who believe. He says in John 14:2-5, "In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."
