You might feel that you are in charge of your own body and mind. They belong to you and you can do anything you want with them. But God has a different idea. Because He loves you so much, He has given you a special place in His creation. He has chosen you to be His child, to love and serve Him in everything you do. Because you love God you want very much to do what He wants you to do. Your body and your mind are the tools that make that loving service possible!

Psalm 8 does a beautiful job of expressing God's design for our lives. Please read that Psalm and answer the following questions:

How is God's greatness shown? (verse 1-4)  

What are the things that make us special in God's creation? (verse 5-8)  

In your opinion, how do those special gifts from God affect the way you see yourself, body and mind?  

Saint Paul gives us another very good reason why we should take good care of our bodies and minds. Take a look at 1 Corinthians 3:16-17. A temple is a place set aside for God's special use. It is a place of prayer and praise.

In what way is your physical body set aside for special use by God?  

If we pay close attention to God's Word, then, we understand that He wants us to dedicate ourselves to Him. He wants us to use our bodies and our minds in a special way. Saint Paul tells us more about our service to God in Romans 12:1-2.

In verse 1, he gives the reason why we offer ourselves to God. What is that reason?  

What would you say are the "standards of this world" that we should avoid?  

By bringing you to faith in Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is able to transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Through God's Word He makes known to you what is good, pleasing to God and perfect!
