3. LOVE AND MARRIAGE

God not only created a man and a woman to take care of His creation, and to have power over all the other things that He had made. He also made it possible for the man and the woman to have a very close relationship with one another. That relationship is what we talk about when we think of the love between a man and a woman. It all began a little further on in the Book of Genesis, chapter 2, verse 7. Taking a little bit of dirt from the ground, God worked one of His finest miracles. He gave life and breath to that bit of clay, and it became the first human being in the whole world. That would seem to be a spectacular finish to God's whole creation.

But read on! Genesis 2:18-24 tells us that God was not finished yet. He still had another, even more beautiful miracle to come. Please read those verses.

What problem did God see for the man that He had created? (verse 18)  

Even today we know how painful loneliness can be, how badly we need the other people God created.

What was God's first attempt to provide companionship for His lonely man? (verse 19 and 20)  

Why was she a suitable companion for him? (verse 23)  

Human love had begun. The man and the woman recognized that they were very special to one another, that they had a very special place in God's creation. Their situation wasn't any different than our own. Shortly after they fell in love, they took that next important step in life.marriage! Verse 24 says "a man is united with his wife, and they become one."
