Love Makes The World Go Round
4. AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE!
Those first two human beings found great joy in their marriage.the same kind of joy that we would like to find in ours. But that isn't always easy! There are problems that we have to overcome. You love that special person in your life very much! But you are still two different people. You come from different family backgrounds, maybe even different cultures. You might have big differences in education and the kind of work that you do. You like to stay up late, yet your mate likes to get up early. You like to socialize with friends and co-workers and your mate likes to spend some quiet time at home in the evening. So many differences! How will it ever be possible for you to "become one"? The God who made that first marriage possible offers some helpful advice about making your own marriage a happy and lasting one. That helpful advice starts right at the beginning.with the love that a man and a woman have for each other. If we strive to make that love as deep and as strong as the love God has for us, then it will provide a sure foundation for marriage. Let's take a look at the kind of love we are talking about. Read 1 John 4:7-12. Where does human love come from? (verse 7 & 8) How did God show His love for us? (verse 9) How do we respond to God's loving gift of His Son? (verse 11 & 12) St. Paul offers us a clear definition of love in his famous "Love Chapter," 1 Corinthians 13. His description of love is so beautiful that you might want to start by reading the whole chapter. Now focus your attention on verses 4 to 7. Paul says many positive things in these verses. He says love is Spend some time thinking how those things can help make a marriage strong. Talk them over with your spouse or the person you love. He also shares some things that love is not. He says love is not Are any of those things interfering with the joy of your own marriage? How could you and your spouse work at overcoming those things and making your love stronger?
