6. A TOUGH QUESTION

Remember that God instructed Adam and Eve to have many children, so that they could live all over the earth and be caretakers for all of God's creation. Now people DO live all over the earth.so many that the earth's resources are running out. Should Christian parents continue to have many children, or should they plan their families so that the number of children is limited? That is a question that is not directly answered in God's Word.a question that is left to the conscience of the individual Christian.

In answering that question for yourself, you might want to ask yourself some further questions:

• How many children are you able to care for? You must provide food, housing, medical care, education and all the other needs of each child. Are your resources sufficient for a large family?
• Do you and your spouse actually desire more children, or are you simply having more because it is the natural thing to do? Children who are not truly wanted and loved often grow up to lead very unhappy lives.
• Is it Christian to use artificial birth control methods to limit the size of the family? Many Christians believe that God permits them to use such methods and would even encourage them to do so. Others have problems with using them, and are limited to using the natural means of family planning. Consult with a doctor or nurse about both kinds of family planning and make your decision based on your own family. Pray that God will help you make this difficult choice.
