Online Bible Study - Our New Life in Christ
We're All In This Together!
Because God loved us and sent His Son to die for us, we want to change our lives. We want to live according to His will. But, first, we need someone to show us how to love our neighbor, what changes we have to make in order to please God. We need someone to write the new rules for our lives. Our first thought is to look around us, to follow what other people are doing, and in that way to discover how to live. But, remember, we are all sinners, and all of us have forgotten how God would like for us to live. (Romans 3:10-12). If we follow the poor examples set by those around us, then we will never discover what is God's will. It is like driving a car. There are laws which tell us how to drive, how to safely use the streets and roads. But instead of following those laws, we look around us, see the way other people drive, and follow their example. Soon everyone is driving too fast, failing to stop for traffic lights, parking wherever they like taking dangerous chances in traffic. Instead of being safe and well controlled, the roads and streets become crowded and everyone's life is in danger. In order to make things work, we need rules, and we need to have them enforced. That's why God has given us a set of rules to follow as we try to change our lives. He wants us all to take the right direction as we make those changes, so that our New Life in Christ will please Him and so that we can be happier in our lives together. That set of rules is called The Ten Commandments. You will find them written in the book of Exodus, chapter 20, verses 1-17. You will recognize the first three of those rules (verses 1-11) because we talked about them in lesson one. They form the basis for our relationship with God. The other seven (verses 12-17) are God's guidelines for how we should love and respect our neighbors. In this lesson, we are taking a closer look at those guidelines and how they change our behavior.
