Let's Get This Place Cleaned Up!
It's so easy for us to take the gifts of God for granted. The trees, land, rivers and forests have been here for many years and we forget where they came from. The plants of the earth and the fish in the sea have provided food for many generations of human beings so we forget to think about who created them. We breathe the air, feel the sunshine and rain, never giving a thought to how important they are to our lives. God's Word, then, is a very important reminder for us. It speaks to us of our Creator, of the goodness and wisdom of God when He created the world in which we live. Please look at Psalm 104 and read this beautiful description of our Creator God. The Psalm opens by praising the greatness of God, and then speaks of God's authority over everything He has made. How does God exercise that authority over the things in the heavens? (verses 2-4) How can we see God's authority over the things on earth? (verses 5-9) This Psalm of praise also speaks of God's great love and concern for the creatures that He made. verses 10-23 speak about how God takes care of the earth and its inhabitants. Take a separate sheet of paper and write down all of the different creatures that are mentioned in the Psalm and describe how God takes care of them. But the Psalm also goes on to say that God continues to care for His creatures, continues to give them all they need to sustain their lives. How is that concern expressed in verses 27 and 28? We know that our own lives depend on the food that God provides! What do verses 29 and 30 say about God's continued care? Every minute of every day we depend on God's watchful care to protect our lives! Now, let's turn to another Psalm to see how we, as Christian people, respond to God's care and protection. Read Psalm 95, verses 1-7. Verses 1 and 2 call for us to praise our God by We praise God because He rules over all the spiritual powers (verse 3), because He rules over the land and over the sea (verses 4 and 5). How does verse 7 express our relationship to our Creator God?
