Online Bible Study - The Promise Is to You
THE QUESTION: Is there such a person as God? WE BELIEVE: The universe demands belief in a God Who creates and cares. A STORY: Centuries ago a great scientist made a small copy of our solar system. In the middle was a large golden ball representing the sun. Going around the sun, attached by sticks, were other, smaller balls that pictured the planets. The whole thing was run by gears and belts. One day, a friend, who did not believe in God, paid him a visit. In awe at the device, the visitor exclaimed, "What a beautiful thing! Who made it?" The scientist replied, "Nobody. All of these things just came together, and, by chance, began revolving in perfect timing." The unbelieving friend understood! It was impossible for that model to invent itself. In the same way, it is impossible to believe the entire universe came together by itself. ANSWER THIS: . . . From your own observations, does God exist? List your reasons why or why not. GOD SPEAKS: Thousands of years ago, the Lord knew people would question His existence. He instructed a man to write: "The fool has said in his heart there is no God." (Psalm 14:1-In these lessons, when you come upon a word followed by some numbers, it will refer to a BOOK, CHAPTER and VERSE from the Bible. The Bible is God's word for us.) Today, some people do not just ignore God; they want EVERYONE to believe that this complicated universe, and even human beings came into being by accident or by some natural process. To people with these beliefs, God has said, He is the "builder of everything," and the "heavens declare the glory of God." Whenever people have looked at something as big as the universe or as small as a bug's wing, they know there must be a God. If they think about God, they are forced to realize that the Creator is: Eternal and powerful - He is older than the universe, and must be strong enough to create it. (Romans 1:20) Wise - To bring order out of chaos, God has to be much smarter than we are. (Psalm 104:24) Kind - To see that He provides for His creation by sustaining it, God must be generous. (Acts 14:17) When we look at the world, we know there is a God. When we see the changing seasons, and the miracle of a baby, we know that the Lord is there and watches over us. If you are still not sure about whether God exists, then think: could this lesson come together by itself, or did it need an author and a printer? If this simple lesson needs an author, does not our complicated world need a Creator? IS GOD REAL FOR YOU? YES NO WHAT DO YOU SEE THAT MAKES HIM REAL? If your answer is "YES," proceed to the next page. If your answer is "NO," think about the lesson some more or write us. Tell us why you still feel the way you do.
