Online Bible Study - The Promise Is to You

THE QUESTION: Is the Bible just another book about God?
WE BELIEVE:The Bible is God's true revelation of Himself.

A STORY: Most people know that years ago, oil was found in Egypt. They may not know that the search for Egyptian oil began when a man was reading the Biblical book of Exodus. He came upon a story about a woman, living in Egypt, who made a basket watertight by covering it with pitch. He figured that where there is pitch there is also oil. Believing the Bible is true, he thought that if there was oil in Egypt 3,000 years ago, it was there today. The man looked and soon found the oil God said was there.

ANSWER THIS: . . . .We believe the Bible is God's "truth." How can the Bible be for us a treasure similar to the man who found oil in Egypt?

GOD SPEAKS: The story from the paragraph above shows us that the Bible can be trusted, even when it comes to something as unrelated to God as searching for oil. That story tells us that God is reliable; He ALWAYS tells the truth. Using many writers, taking over 1,600 years, God told us how we can be saved.
We know many religions in the world have books which they consider to be holy. We admit that many of these books have some wisdom and deep thoughts. But, we know the Bible is different because it shows everyone, no matter their class, age or sex, the right path to salvation (John 5:39). That is why we are not surprised to see that when scientists have investigated the claims of the Bible, they find God's Word tells the truth.
Because the Bible is true, and because it speaks to everybody, it has become the best selling, most widely printed and translated book in history. It has always been popular, even though many rulers and religions have tried to destroy it.
Knowing the Bible is God's special message to us, we use His Book by:
searching the Bible, because it reveals and tells about God. (John 5:39)
using the Bible as a map to follow the "Way" to life. (John 14:6)
building our lives on the Bible so we can be secure against life's storms. (Matthew 7:24-25)

THIS PART OF OUR LESSON ASKS:
Did you ever go to a number of wise people for help or advice? Did one person tell you to do one thing and the next person tell you to do something very different? Write why it would help you to know someone who is always right:

Write down some questions you have on which you need direction or an answer from God.
