Online Bible Study - The Promise Is to You

WHAT GOD SAYS IN HIS HOLY WORD...
The passages on the next two pages come from God's Word. Reading and thinking about them can offer a greater understanding of God's plan of salvation for you! The words and numbers after each reading tells where these statements can be found in the Bible. As you gain comfort and strength from them, share them with a friend.

The first sin.

  • "God saw all that He had made and it was very good." Genesis 1:31
  • "Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man (Adam), and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned." Romans 5:12
  • "[The devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." John 8:44
Our duty toward God.
  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." Philippians 4:6
  • "Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." Psalm 73:25-26
Our duty toward others.
  • "Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God." Romans 15:7
  • "I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." Matthew 5:44
  • "Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly beloved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God." Ephesians 5:1-2
We need Christ's righteousness to get to heaven.
  • "There is no one righteous, not even one." Romans 3:10
  • "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Romans 8:1
  • "This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:22-24
  • "Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool." Isaiah 1:18
Sin from Adam, righteousness from Christ.
  • Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ." Romans 5:16-17
  • "For just as through the disobedience of the one man (Adam) the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man (Christ) the many will be made righteous." Romans 5:19
  • "For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive." 1 Corinthians 15:21-22
  • "Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, "You must be born again." John 3:6-7
The end of sin in heaven and in hell.
  • "And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes--I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! Job 19:26-27
  • "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." Matthew 10:28
  • "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and may enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow is the road that leads to life, and only a few find it." Matthew 7:13-14
  • "Know that the Lord has set apart the godly for himself." Psalm 4:3
  • "My body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." Psalm 16:9-11
Christians sin, but are forgiven.
  • "So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!" Romans 7:21-25
  • "A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out." Isaiah 42:3
