THE QUESTION: Can I be a believer all by myself? WE BELIEVE: that with the Lord we are never alone. A STORY: A Christian man had become worried about his friend because he had stopped associating with other believers. The concerned Christian went to his friend's house, where there was a fire burning to cook the evening meal. Without saying a word, he took a stick and pulled a fiery red ember away from the rest of the burning wood. As they watched, the coal quickly lost its color, turned dark and started to go out. Then the friend pushed the ember back into the fire and it once again started to glow. The man understood and came back to his Christian friends. REPLY TO THIS QUESTION: Almost all of us, sometime in our life, feel alone. Write down the time when you were most alone and write down how you felt: GOD SPEAKS: In this part of our lesson we need to make one thing very clear: it is only the rejection of Jesus, not the absence of a church, that stands in the way of salvation. Remember what we've said in our lessons: God has done everything to save us. By ourselves, we can do nothing. When a person is saved by the Lord Jesus, the Holy Spirit fills him with joy and a desire to tell others how wonderful God is. Sadly, many new Christians find their friends and family don't understand the changes the Lord has brought about in their lives. To find support and strength for their faith, it is natural that Christians come together. They want to be on fire for their Lord. They find that when they are separated from other Christians they can lose some of the spark and fire that God has given them. To keep the spark of faith burning brightly, God has given us His church. Lutheran Hour Ministries, the group that prepared these lessons, is one small part of the church. Here are some of the things God wants members of His church-family to be:
A church does not have to be a big building filled with many people. A church is believers who share their common faith, who come together just about anywhere. Because of special circumstances a Christian may not be able worship with other believers - but that is an exception. When this happens, that person needs to remember the words of Jesus: "I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28: 20) For your sake, we encourage you to seek out fellow believers whenever possible. Please answer these questions: THIS PART OF THE LESSON ASKS: List the people you know who need Jesus' message of salvation: Say a prayer for them.
