Christmas Recipes from Mexico

Recipe Name: Hojuelas o Bunuelos

  • 1 kilo of flour

  • ½ liter of water

  • A pinch of salt

  • 1 tablespoon of anís

  • Oil

Sift the flour so that it is very fine and spread it over a flat surface.

Heat the water with the anis and salt.

When the water is hot, add the flour so that it begins to form a dough, once all the flour has been added add some oil so that it begins to take the shape and consistency of bread dough. Once it is sufficiently mixed, let sit for 15 minutes.

Once the 15 minutes have passed, take the dough and make balls about the size of ping pong balls. Cover them with a towel and let sit for another 15 minutes.

After 15, roll out the dough so that it is the shape and size of a flat tortilla. Fry in the oil...ready to eat!

They are served with honey or sugar, according to each persons taste.
