VENEZUELA
My name is Edgar. I became an alcoholic at a very
young age. I was born in a very poor home and had
a very difficult childhood, which lead to many behavior
changes in me. My years at elementary school were
marked with family and nutritional problems, where
the figure of my father was that of the "macho"
type, with lots of violence, and physical and moral
aggression towards me. It was during this period that
I had my first encounter with alcohol. Booze became
a habit for me. When I started high school I met many
different types of people and friends that had also
fallen into the world of alcoholism, as well as of
crime. During this time I dropped out from school
and had problems with a girl that was younger than
me. She became my wife later, because I was forced
to marry her because she got pregnant. We were married
for 8 years and from this union we had a son, but
due to the constant fights, our marriage came to an
end and we got divorced. Then my life became unbearable.
Day after day I felt less able of controlling my drinking
habit. Right then I had the opportunity of hearing
about the ministry of Christ For All The Nations over
the radio. I approached them, attracted by their booklets
and spiritual messages. When I went to their office
seeking help, I met people that offered me moral and
spiritual support by presenting me with a choice in
the Gospel's hope in order to achieve change. Christ
touched my life under these circumstances and changed
it totally. Today, I can say that everything has changed
for me. I have conquered alcoholism and I am full
of hope, for I know my life is in Jesus hands. I have
moved forward in the knowledge of God's Word by means
of the Bible courses offered by Christ For All The
Nations. My fears have disappeared because now I have
God in my life, who sustains me and has allowed me
to stand up again on this long road in a world that
is so full of conflicts. I give thanks to God and
to the ministry of Christ For All The Nations (the
name LHM uses in Venezuela), because they have become
my true friends in Christ.
